Standing in line may be an unintended favorite human past time. I don’t know anyone who loves to be in the queue, yet we all race to get there. In line at the grocery store. In line to score tickets. In line to get a table. In line for the showers at the beach. And there we wait. Quietly, we pretend not to be interested in the people around us, looking quickly at our phones if they almost catch our eye. Or maybe we smile and give a quick nod of the head, if we’re caught.
I prefer to meet those eyes. Smile back. Be engaged in the world that is quietly awaiting our attention.
