Disconnected

Surrounded by life, moving, breathing, running, screaming, we are constantly in motion. We have deadlines, activities, responsibilities, expectations, stress, stress and more stress. How do we combat it? How do we slow down? We know what we’d like to do. We know what we should do. But, what do we actually do? Be honest… . Yep. Pick up that phone, the $1000 hand held computer that can connect us to every bit of information recorded. The one that holds the numbers of every person we know and some we don’t even remember. Do we call one of those long lost friends? Do we reach out to our closest besties, our BFFs, our ride or die, together forever, mate you don’t need a contact for because you’ve had their number memorized since birth? Nope. How about that new friend you met in line at the coffee shop or the one sitting next to you at church? Nope. We don’t want to disturb them. They are probably busy and besides maybe they posted. Social media is calling our name. That candy isn’t going to crush itself. Headlines found in the algorithms of our feed are not going to wait. Scroll, scroll, doom scroll. It’s been 2 hrs. We look up, the world is blurry, and our chest and mind are filled hollow.

We all get sucked in sometimes. Overwhelmed. Overcharged. Overstimulated. When was the last time we looked up? When was the last time we smiled to greet a stranger? When was the last time we noticed the color of someone’s eyes and realized they were almost exactly the shade as our father’s? When was the last time we mended our own aching spirits with the healing connection of the souls arounds us?
