Oh those eyes! Having done anything to create that look in my child’s eyes hurts my heart. There are times though, that we see reflected back at us, the feelings of hurt, anger, disgust, and scorn. They hit us like daggers and often it is a surprise attack and we don’t see them coming. Ignorance and neglect draw them out and they point in multiple directions.
Sometimes it is not us at whom these daggers are aimed, but rather we who are drawing them out. We feel disrespected or pushed aside.
No matter in which direction the dagger is wielded, it is never pleasant. Coming from within or without, contempt makes us miserable. It marks a place deep in our souls and doesn’t heal easily.
