Acceptance

I’ve always hated the saying, “It is what it is”. It sounded like a cop out. It’s what I heard in my head when I felt overwhelmed or defeated. Wouldn’t it be better, “It is what you make it” or “It is what I make it”? Wouldn’t it be better to give myself some incentive to make it what I want? Work harder. Be more diligent. Yet, inevitably, obstacles arise and halt our momentum. We live in an imperfect world, after all.

The understanding that “it is what it is” is, in actuality, immeasurably beneficial. Seeing the roadblocks in our way and accepting them, allows us the flexibility to maneuver around them. That acceptance encourages us to search harder, dig deeper, and expand our minds and our will. It helps us find resources outside our norms and even open ourselves up to new acquaintances and friends. Acceptance give us room for growth.
